For the last project I worked with pasta. Both uncooked and cooked. It was quite an interesting experience and an interesting material. One thing that I noticed, that I had not taken into consideration was how much cooked pasta shrinks when it dries. This is something that people should take into consideration if they are to work with cooked pasta. So if you make a shape there it will change slightly one dry. If kept moist in a pot for a few days without refrigerating, the cooked pasta will also very quickly become fuzzy with mold.
I definitely preferred working with uncooked pasta as it will hold its shape better than the cooked kind. By glueing strips of pasta together with E6000, a non-flammable, paintable industrial strength adhesive I was able to create panels which I then cut and shaped into the size and shape I wanted. I then glued all the pieces together to form the bases and different pieces of the oil can. I used various objects like tea mugs and candles wrapped in wax paper (so that the pasta would not get glued to the objects themselves) to function as a base around which the pasta panels could be shaped and dry before attaching each piece to one another.
It is good to keep in mind that uncooked pasta is quite fragile and brakes easily. However, by adding adhesive to the pasta it become much more durable.
Have fun working with your pasta!
