Salvador Dali was a Spanish Catalan surrealist painter from Spain. He was a very skilled draftsman and was best known for his bizarre images in his work. His painting skills are usually attributed to the influence of the Renaissance masters. The Persistence of Memory is thought to be his best known work of art and was completed in 1931. Dali was not only a painter, but divulged himself in the arts of film, sculpture, and photography. He tended to collaborate with a range of artists in different types of media, allowing himself more experience throughout different types of art work. Dali was very imaginative and tended to act unusually and was known to have an "out there" behavior. His eccentric personality became very attention-grabbing, especially in the public eye, which allowed more attention to be drawn towards his artwork. Although you would think this would help, some of his followers who held his work in high esteem and different critics didn't think it was appropriate. Salvador Dali passed away in 1989, but has earned his place to be remembered forever.
Haha okay I found this post to be hilarious because I had no idea who this guy was until now. I mean, his named sounded familiar and maybe I've heard of him through an art history class before, but otherwise he was an unknown to me. All I knew was that his face (this image) looked eccentric and "out there" enough for me to use as a screen print earlier this semester. I paired this image up with the phrase "POOTS" and a pile of doodoo. I find it funny because without knowing this guy's personality I kind of perpetuated his work of absurdness without knowing it.
