Australian Ian Strange recently did a project in the Christchurch Museum (I saw it when I was in NZ) continuing his exploration of the social and emotional icons. For this particular project he used four suburban homes located in an area of Christchurch deemed too dangerous to re-inhabit after the devastating 2011 earthquake.
The homes were first restored to a structurally sound state, complete with righted fences and mowed lawns. Geometric shapes were then cut in to the homes only leaving their framework. They were lit from the inside during early dawn hours, signifying the life that had previously inhabited them, then filmed and photographed.
