808 URBAN is a nonprofit organization that helps at risk youth express themselves through art by collaborating with established artists to create large scale murals in various communities on the island of Oahu. They organize various free workshops at The Refuge, a small studio space/store located in the Kaka'ako district.
Although these murals often deal with serious subjects and political and social dilemmas, they often use eye-catching colors and composition, and sometimes even humor to relay their messages. I think these murals are absolutely wonderful and felt they worked well with the theme of pushing the boundaries of what art is.
