For at least 200 years, humans have been using fire for many things. Mainly they use it for warmth and to cook their foods, but more recently we have been using fire to light cigarettes and burn love letters we decide not to mail.
The scientists of the Youtube channel CrazyRussianHacker use fire in a different way.
In the video, he coats the string with acetone, which I didn't have, but he also says nail polish remover works just the same, but I didn't have that either. I used lighter fluid because I know for a fact that it is flammable.
After some later experiments at home, I have found that this works best with glass objects, since glass is an unstable material (source needed) the act of applying heat and then extreme cold (ice water) causes the glass to literally separate from itself, as if it were almost never connected before.
The best connection I can make of this process is to the movie Titanic, where you have your Leo Dicaprio falling in love with that one rich girl, and their love is really passionate and hot (fire). But then the iceberg (ice water) comes and hits the ship and they separate and I think Leo D gets killed or something.
