Working with paper can be quite challenging as it is not a very durable or stable material. However, when layered and reinforced with other ingredients such as water and flour, this material can become quite stable and sturdy.
For my third assignment I choose paper as the material that I wanted to further explore. The reason for this choice was that in previous art classes I primarily used paper for drawing and sketching and in the planning phase of my creative process, and that it often got overlooked as a serious "building" material. I wanted to explore its properties, its strengths, as well as its weaknesses.
One of the most efficient ways to make paper stronger and sturdier is to layer it and bond it together. The final product of this layering and glueing process is called papier-maché.

How to do papier-maché:
1) mix water and flour until it becomes a crepe batter-like paste
2) cut paper strips (newspaper, craft paper etc.)
3) use a balloon or some type bowl/form that you will layer the paper on, that will create your desired shape.
4) dip strips in paste and begin to layer them on top of your balloon or
form. After covering your form with one layer of paper start another
layer. Keep layering until desired thickness.
5) let dry and paint afterwards, or leave as such
