Jessica Dance has created 100% lambs wool, interior taxidermy trophies. She notes "I knitted the animal busts using my domestic knitting machine". She has collaborated with photographer David Sykes in her work, Wolly Mammals, and with Kim Jakobsen To in the, knit heads. They create humorous yet layered, thought provoking pieces. Jessica Dance is a London-based art director, model maker ad prop stylist. The pieces leave an impression of the playful absurdity of taxidermy busts.
Oh I love this! Personally I've always found the taxidermy busts to be super odd and eerie. This is probably because I grew up in the city and have never been hunting or done serious fishing in my life so I don’t have a great appreciation for keeping “trophies” of this kind. But in this case, the softness and plushy feel to these busts seem almost “kid friendly” and I approve! I almost feel as though they feel like puppets and at any moment they’re going to start moving and singing songs about the letter of the day to me if I were sitting in the same room as them. The ability to sew and create these seemingly seamless works is rather impressive also.
