Tadashi Kawamata is a Japanese artist who works in sculpture and installation art. He is know for his unique, architectural installations that are incorporated into already existing structures. Together the two create new urban spaces and interesting compositions. Kawamata has created both large and small scale installations all over the world but primarily works in Japan and France. His works are fascinating and definitely worth discussing as some of us continue to explore installation art for our final project.
Wow, in terms of installation art this is the kind of stuff that immediately grabs your attention. Just the sheer magnitude of the installation forces you to stop what you’re doing for a beat and just take it all in. There’s no way that someone can just walk by his art and not stop to stare. His work is quite overwhelming, but very impressive in that it looks like chaos, but in order to achieve such a pile up, a complex and intricate structure has to be present to hold the whole thing together. How did he attach all those chairs overflowing from that building?
