Shigeo Fukuda was a graphic designer, poster artist, and sculptor. His works are very playful. He works a lot with optical illusions, visual puns and ways of seeing. Many of his poster designs and sculptures play with the interaction of positive and negative space to give his subjects/work multiple meanings. He also had an interest in the social issues which comes across in some of his work. Fukuda had a keen sense of humor that extended into his personal life: his home just outside of Tokyo featured (what appeared to be) a 4ft high front door, this door was actually a visual trick; the actual entrance was an unornamented white door that was designed to blend seamlessly into the white walls of his house.
The motor bike image (left) is a seamingly arbitrary form made entirely from forks and knives but when a light is shone from a certain angle it casts the shadow of a motorbike.
