Weiner is a central force to the conceptualization of contemporary art. His work takes shape in the form of typographic texts intended to act as a visual queue, or aid, for the viewer to digest and interpret. Often incredibly opaque, his work is what I like to call "representational art", meaning that on the surface, it is exactly what it is.
Why he became so popular can be credited due to the ideology of new-age art theorists who deem it necessary to pick apart and examine each follicle of art being produced.
His typographic installations are mainly site-specific installations, using the environment to influence his meaning.
I find his straight-forward explanation of objects or sites to be incredibly humorous.
It's as if he is telling a joke, and then explaining why the joke is funny.
