Grayson Perry is an English artist who primarily focuses on ceramics. He is also known, however, because of his cross-dressing, which is shown in his work as well. He tends to put his alterego, "Claire", on a lot of his artwork and in 2003, Perry dressed as Claire for an Award Ceremony in which he was given the Turner Prize. Other than his cross dressing figures, Perry's vases usually have classical forms and bright colors. He first started experimenting with film, but that proved inadequate for communicating his ideas about gender and society. But pottery, according to Perry, became an effective alternative because of "the ways artifice could be deployed to make the innocent or honest pot have a purpose and mean something".
