Also known as "il Dito" which is Italian for "the Finger", the Italian artist Dito Von Tease began his Ditology project in 2009 when he decided to create a Facebook account. Thinking of how people desire to hide their real identities by creating personas of themselves, he created a digital avatar. Based off of the Italian saying "nascondermi dietro un dito" meaning to "hide myself behind my finger", this led Dito to create a collection of characters for his portraits taken from news, historical events, and other outlets but mainly focused on celebrities who are the embodiment of people wearing masks to hide their inner identities, fragilities, and actual feelings. Dito uses his own finger and takes anywhere from 8 to 16 hours using Photoshop to finish his portraits. The index finger was chosen in order to question you, the viewer about your own identity.
