Alfred Stieglitz is a very well known artist from New Jersey with many works in different museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Stieglitz is well known for moving to New York in 1890 attempting to figure out how to prove that photography was a medium as capable of artistic expression as painting or sculpture. Throughout his 50 year career, he ran a few art galleries in New York in the early part of the 20th century, where he introduced a bunch of Avant-garde European artists to the U.S. Although he passed away in the mid 1900s, it is thought that before he passed, he accomplished his goal.
